Character (Original Universe)
Name: Evon Gnashblade
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Canon: Guild Wars 2
Canon Point: End of Living Story: Season 1
History: wiki
Personality: Like most charr, Evon Gnashblade was raised from a young age with his warband in a military-oriented fahrar. This shaped his personality and personal philosophy greatly, but—as opposed to battlejoy typically associated with his people—Evon finds other outlets for his aggressive tendencies. In his own words, he applies military strategy to his commercial pursuits. The reality is less straightforward, as it is likely that he does not feel well suited to battle, and the somewhat simulated nature of business better fits his disposition. It is suggested that Evon avoids violence, and is perhaps even uncomfortable with if not fearful of it. In his pivotal final confrontation with his ex-legionnaire, he is shown to be passive and cautious, and the encounter itself was an attempt to dissuade her from a course of fear and intimidation--tactics he believed would ultimately fail their enterprise. When she attempted to draw her sword on him, Evon was able to best her not with his skill in combat, but by quickly taking advantage of her opening with a readied dagger. He inherited the Gnash warband in this way, and confidently declared their new direction. The experience left him shaken, but he held his cool until he was alone. He can expertly maintain a professional face, and would never let slip anything that could be construed as weakness.

Very few are privy to the true face of Evon Gnashblade. His strictly maintained public persona is crucial to both his business and his political aspirations. To those ends, he presents himself as charmingly upbeat, and with the interests of others as a top concern. He writes promotions with a great sense of eagerness, and he’s an expert at spinning products as a kind of mutually beneficial service. In person, however, he may come across as rough and crude, if not downright imposing. He is also quite proud of his success, and (rather rightfully so) attributes it to his own skill. As a member of the Ash legion, he values cunning and subterfuge, and is the careful employer of both. He was even able to discern that the city of Lion's Arch would be a target long before it was determined by anyone with enough authority to do anything about it.

Evon is highly self-interested, but perhaps not to the point of total denial of those around him. Greed seems to be less his motivating factor than a pure excited joy for business, or capitalism, as if it truly replaces in his life what battle is for other charr. His competitors he sees as meat, yet he seems to show genuine concern for his adopted home city, and indignation at the mismanagement of it. He was outspoken against both the city council and the captain of the defense forces when it seemed the city was under terroristic threat by Scarlet Briar. When his predictions came true and the city was attacked, he was quick to lay the blame at their feet, accusing them of the deaths of thousands of citizens and loss of the city. He was also convinced to donate a hardware upgrade to an AI golem that approached him for help, but would have been unable to cover any charges. Granted, this could largely be more political spinning, but again his true nature is typically hidden behind layers of pretense.

Evon’s primary weaknesses would be his own pride, and his degrees of two-facedness. His reaction to losing the Council vote to Ellen Kiel demonstrates how much faith he puts in money, and perhaps how out of touch he is with anything but business and presentation. He is also depicted as somewhat fearful, leading him to seek positions of safety and authority, or to act rashly when neither is available, such as his fatal attack on his legionnaire, or forcing the closure of a gate during the evacuation from Lion's Arch. He is an absolutely ruthless businessman, and seems unconcerned about the trail of enemies that such a path leaves behind. His assistant claims to be the only thing keeping him from absolutely and aggressively eliminating all competition. His confidence in his abilities combined with his joyfully brutal, overeager approach will likely be his undoing, but on the other hand, Evon does have a knack for turning even the seemingly worst situations to his immediate advantage (he gained control of his warband from an attempt on his life, built a profitable company out of what was little more than a sham, and became the top merchant in Lion's Arch after his forced conscription into the Lionguard and the requistioning of his goods).

Third-Person Sample: The waterlogged chest sat heavy on the office table, dripping into it’s own growing pool. But he could fuss over the finish later, this was a moment of excitement. For as long as he’d been in Lion’s Arch, Evon had precious few chances to engage in actual piracy. Having his crew raid an abandoned cargo wreck wasn’t quite the essential pirate act, but it fell somewhere inside the same spectrum, surely.

And it was all well and legal by the city charter, in any case.

But Evon was excited for another reason. The Consortium had established themselves rapidly in the local merchant circle. They’d eluded even his networks, but their operation, while meager on the Lion’s Arch front, seemed profitable. Too profitable, as far as he was concerned. But the problem seemed to have sorted itself out. He doubted any startup company, resort-based or not, could survive such a massive loss of inventory.

The Consortium was finished. At least in this city. All that remained was to pry open this chest and see what he would have been dealing with. And what he would be dealing in, if he planned to refurbish the stock. It took some effort, and a crowbar, but he had the thing loose within minutes. Setting aside the soaked green lid, he reached into the box and held. . .

“. . . a mask?”

The hell was he going to do with a bunch of masks? The item rested on a floor of weird shells, and some kind of clingy flower. Maybe it would be best if he kept all promises on the contents to a minimum. His clientele went crazy for that kind of thing, they were funny that way.

Mognet Sample: Exciting news this week! We’ve got two new reasons to dust off that old license. You and your mount can strut in style with our unique line of chocobo. . . bardings? Bardings! Available in both black mage cowls and white mage hoods, these bardings are expressive, functional, and downright adorable. The only thing missing is the corresponding magic functionality! Which, I’ve been assured, is an appreciably less practical idea than it may sound.
